Better coffee at home: five details that make a difference.

Better coffee at home: five details that make a difference
Good coffee does not always call for complicated equipment. A few thoughtful habits and a repeatable recipe can make a noticeable difference.

1. Start with water
Most of your cup is water. Use clean water that tastes pleasant on its own. If your tap water has a strong smell, try filtering it.

2. Grind just before brewing
Freshly ground beans hold on to more of their aroma. Match the grind to your brewer: espresso needs a fine grind, while a French press generally needs a coarser one.

3. Weigh your coffee and water
For filter coffee, try starting with 15 grams of coffee and 250 grams of water. Treat this as a starting point, not a fixed rule. Adjust in small steps to suit your taste.

4. Keep your brewer clean
Coffee oils and residue build up over time. Wash removable parts and clean your equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

5. Store your beans carefully
Reseal the bag and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Flavour gradually changes after opening, so choose an amount you can use while it still tastes its best.

Above all, trust your own taste. Change one thing at a time and keep a note of the cups you enjoy most.
